The temperature reads -1 degrees Fahrenheit. Yikes, it’s cold out. I sit in my car as I watch Felicia pull up next to me. We are parked by Skytop, the local coffee shop. This will keep us going. We have warm coffee waiting for us at the end of our 13-mile run. I pull my neck gaiter over my face and neck. I grab my hat and gloves. Okay, I’m ready I’ve got this.
Felicia steps out of her car, “Are we crazy”.
I smile under my neck gaiter as I recall driving by a runner wearing shorts just minutes earlier.
No, we aren’t crazy, we are wearing pants.
She grins, “I have two pairs on”. Exactly, we are definitely NOT crazy.
It’s days like this I recall my why. Why would I go out in this cold weather and run 13 miles?
What keeps me going to lace up my sneakers and get out the door. The simplest reason, it’s when I feel most like me.
When have you felt most like you?
Poem of the Day:
Free
I feel secure, free
Wide-open spaces
Nothing can stop me
Gain ground on the roads
I feel like home
Ready to fly
A bird soaring high
Forward motion
Beats the commotion
Fresh air even if it’s cold
I am bold
This is good Julie….forward motion beats the commotion….that’s a great line and so true. You are an inspiration!
I love the poem!
