Do you have a goal for yourself in 2022?
Maybe it’s to run a race, explore a new place, improve your nutrition, or be in nature each week.
Mine is to run on the trails more and run a 50K. I achieved this goal on Saturday by running the Highland Forest (Fabius, NY) 1-2-3 trail run.
I had three goals for my first 50K trail run: Finish with a smile. Run the third loop if I make the caught off time and focus on my nutrition each loop. OH! And don’t face plant.
The first loop was relaxed with lots of talking and laughter. We met Hollis, from Manhattan NY. She was full of energy. She loved the mud as it caught her by surprise and the company of other runners.
“I’m usually running all by myself, this is great to run with you all.” She was happy to be out of the city running with us.
We met Caroline a local runner whose goal was to run three loops. She was happy to hear we were too. Her dad caught up with us at the end of the first loop it was nice to hear the conversation from behind us. We are all together.
When the first climb came everyone stopped and power walked up. I was surprised by this- not at all like a road race. If I wanted to make it three loops I needed to embrace the idea of walking. I left my ego in the car, thankfully and I walked too.
The first loop we made in a great time. The second loop here we come! We got this. We entered the trail as the rain started to fall… (To be continued tomorrow)
I would love to hear what is your goal for 2022?
