Sharon, how did the half marathon go on Saturday? I hope you are happy with your accomplishment, Bravo!
Thank you to Felicia, Melissa, Cathy, and Jeff for stopping by at the author event and saying hi. What a great day—I got some great books to read too.
Tell me your favorite halloween costume as a child? (could be a fun writing prompt)
Happy Halloween Costume ready as I run through the streets. I don't care about candy though it would be sweet. Jack-o'-lanterns chuckle at my morning festive run. Unicorn in blinking lights—Here I come! Spooky silver moon grins at my disguise. A witch on her broomstick cruises the sky. Mysterious howl fills my ears. I pick up the pace as goosebumps appear. Sunrise upon us, so I won’t fear. Happy Halloween to you my dear.
Favorite costume: inspired by a vintage black cocktail dress handed down to me by a great-aunt, who thought I might enjoy playing dress up, I dressed as a witch one year. Not the ugly warty kind, but the glamorous kind (is that a thing?). Except I forgot that I was 11 with glasses, acne, and a terrible bowl cut!
We never really 'did' Hallowe'en when I was a child (nor since, actually), but every year for Bonfire Night (November 5th) my friends and I would always enter the fancy dress competition and take part in the torchlit parade to the bonfire and fireworks.
One year, four of us dressed up as characters from Robin Hood - being the tallest I was Robin, and also in the group were Maid Marian and Little John. Friar Tuck didn't freeze like the rest of us on that cold night - to bulk her out to the right proportions she was wrapped in an entire duvet underneath her costume. It was a hoot!
The year that Prince Andrew married Sarah Ferguson we dressed up as them - I had very short hair, so was Prince Andrew in naval uniform (dark blue jumper and trousers belonging to my brother) - nobody recognised me, and kept asking my friend Tracey (who was Fergie) who her boyfriend was. She was wearing an auburn wig and looked divine. My short hair was topped off by an old uniform hat belonging to my pilot dad, which my mum had embroidered an anchor on. Our picture appeared in the local paper!
