I whisper to myself 
Look 
Clouds shape the sky
Just then 
A cardinal— dash of red 
zooms bye
I hear my Grandpa’s voice 
You’re not paying attention 
Rather than a screen 
Watch the Monarch 
Glide past along the breeze 
I wonder how many miles?
I glance down at my watch
Julie, pay attention
Your miles you don’t need to track
Listen— to the 
Blue Jay high
in the black walnut tree
Dismiss the negative thoughts
Take on his birdsong 
and hum along
Notice Maple 
Bright red on the path

endurance at my feet—
