I almost gave up
Listened to the noise
Forgot who I was
What I enjoyed
My identity tangled
with someone else
I need to break free
this isn’t me—

Who am I?
I wanted to know
What do I think
What do I believe
An inside job
courage to see.

Eyes gazed up
over the trench
My search began
with one step
Curiosity grew
Fear stepped aside
God reached down
for my hand
He wouldn’t leave
my side.

Who am I?
I cried as
we climbed out.
Darkness sprinkled
with stars.
Hope and grace
shining through
Julie, you are free
My child—
This suits you.
