N95 to Run The air quality is Very Unhealthy— capitol letters on the screen I found my N95 mask Happy I didn't throw it in the trash I want to run for a bit outside Wearing this will keep me safe I wonder... if this will be more frequent, my heart hurts I wonder... how the birds are doing as I head out the door The haze is still over us Does it still smell? I move my mask a little to expose my nose A nasty sting enters Smoke devours our air from Canada We are all connected. I’m happy to hear the birdsong I want to smile yet— I wonder... about their lungs and their well-being The cardinal, the red-wing blackbird, and the robin sing to me as I run I wonder... what do they think about this stink I feel a heaviness with each footfall I want to gather them all find a safe place for them to breathe, sing, and fly We are all connected.

What a powerful exploration in words of a really unsettling situation, Julie. Stay safe, all of you.
I was so thrilled to be able to join you again at last this afternoon for the Write Along. I'd been missing our sessions a LOT, having not been able to participate for a few weeks now, and I was thrilled with the words that poured out of my pen today. Thank you so much. Writing in company is a wonderful thing.
Haiku for you:
Mankind plays with fire
Climate change is our doing
Nature just reacts....
When will we put down the matches in the form of fossil fuels and realize the whole world is on fire? What will move us to global action since as you so beautifully write, “ we are all connected “...??????????????
