Purple Toenails
I’m standing in the bathroom with my kids. They are washing their faces. It’s a school day and I seem to think micromanaging is the way to go. Don’t forget to wash your nose, make sure you floss and brush your teeth.
I look down at my bare feet. I crinkle my nose. My toenails are pretty beat up from running. I laugh then whine, my toenails are still purple.
Delaney looks over at me and confidently shouts “Mom, you are unique”.
I nod my head. What a beautiful thing to say.
My inner critic was ready to launch in with, your toenails are disgusting, you better get some socks on, yet Delaney’s comment shut her down.
Thank you Delaney! My thoughts shift to gratitude towards my daughter and my running feet.
Let’s give ourselves permission to celebrate our uniqueness...purple toenails and all!
Poem of the day:
Pushing Courage
We mother runners
Cherish our time on the road
The miles are fuel
Energy we need
Motherhood we can handle
Purple toenails too
Let go of the guilt
Run, a moms superpower
Keep pushing courage
We are enough moms
Remind yourself this each day
Be yourself, believe
We will do hard things
Running is one we embrace
Bring it on, Let’s go!
