Our Run to Write team delivered an outstanding performance at Saturday's Good Samaritan 5K/10K Run/Walk!
The event featured a beautiful course that began on the road before connecting to the scenic Empire State Trail for an out-and-back route. With perfect weather conditions, the rain graciously held off, and we couldn't have asked for a more ideal morning to run alongside friends.
Several of us competed in the 10K race. About a mile into our run, we experienced a surprise—a wild turkey burst from the treeline and raced alongside us on the trail before disappearing back into the woods! I couldn't help but smile at our unexpected running companion.
When we reached the turnaround point, we had the perfect opportunity to cheer on our teammates and eventually catch up with the 5K participants. The course layout created this wonderful moment of connection between the different race distances.
By the time I crossed the finish line, my children had already completed their race. They had opted for the 5K along with my mother-in-law, Cathy, and my mom, Karen. It was great to move as a family.
Team members achieved personal records, placed in their divisions, and ranked in the top 2 or 3 overall for female/male. We supported and uplifted one another.
What truly makes this event exceptional is the whole experience, from the dedicated volunteers to the flawless organization and the warm family atmosphere. It was a great place to be on a Saturday morning, gathering with a wonderful community.
The Good Samaritan Race holds a special place in my heart. I'm grateful to have participated for several consecutive years. It's been a blessing to form a team and encourage others to stay active through this event.
We can’t wait until next year!
Thank you to race directors Deb Cerelli and Roxanne Carrier for their dedication to maintaining this wonderful event and the charitable impact it creates. If you're interested in learning more about this race and the organization it supports, please visit their website for additional information.

Oh wow, this is AWESOME, Julie! Well done everyone, and hurrah for Team Run to Write at the Good Samaritan 5k/10k! I'm having a catch-up on my reading, and oh wow, this is such a great post to have started from!
A most celebratory post, Julie B! I smiled at the image of your two children/runners. Brindsley flapping his wings for liftoff. Delaney…what leg strength!
Best of all, not a frown to be found in any of the images, but no shortage of smiles. It would be easy to say “endorphins”…though team spirit and light hearts is more likely. The very notion of a wild turkey as a running companions makes me smile from ear to ear. 😋
