Warning on the Trail
A shrill pricks my ears
on the trail.
CAW, CAW, CAW
Silence swallowed whole—
I turn my head
to the sound while my arms
pump and legs bound.
CAW, CAW, CAW
I tilt my head up,
and my eyes meet—
a chase.
A red-tailed hawk
glides overhead, the crow
hot on his heels.
Persistent.
His alarm call
presses on until the hawk
lands. His threat is over.
Silence holds steady.
It was so great to write with Rebecca, Holly, Sharon, Dan, Heather, and Beth. Thank you. We meet again this Friday 1/13/23 at 11 am (EST). Please feel free to invite a friend or family member. Click the button below to join us.
Love that
"Silence swallowed whole"
Your running adventures seem so similar to mine - I was also watching two crows and a hawk dance in the sky during my last run 😁
