Tomorrow is Thanksgiving in the United States…Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. I will be back in your inbox on Friday with the write together link.
I’m grateful for this community we are building together.
Take good care,
Julie
Today’s post is a piece into my next book: A Real Ballbuster— Untangling Testicular Cancer Together.
I pick up a magnifying glass— What if I investigate my negative self-talk Detective work to understand what blocks my growth... I'm in. Are you?
I grabbed my notebook and pen. I needed to shift my thoughts— writing was an action to help me. I wrote at the top— What are my wins for this week?
My hand raced across the page— Jeff’s MRI negative (no cancer has spread to his brain), laundry folded and put away, I wrote three new poems, meals planned out for the week, water tested and filter changed, laughter (I don’t know what Brindsley said, but he had me rolling on the ground), and I received an email from the children’s school counselor.
Wow! There’s a lot to celebrate even during challenging times.
I was comforted by the follow-up email the school counselor sent me. I knew she was going to talk to Brindsley and Delaney separately this week but had no idea she already made the time.
Her positive feedback encouraged me. Our children were going to be okay. I wanted them to feel safe and to feel seen. During my childhood, there were many moments when I didn’t feel either. Her email gave me reassurance.
She wrote:
“Both seem to be in a good place right now, so I let them know I was here if needed and now they know where to find me! I think you both have done a great job with talking with them and making them feel safe to ask questions. I will be thinking of you all and hoping for good news after treatments.”
Reading this meant the world to me as a mother. This email nudged me to practice some kinder affirmations. I’m open to believing I have what it takes to guide my children through this difficult time. I’m practicing the thought that I am a good enough mother.
What are your wins for this week? Big or small— what if you made a list?
Do you know someone you love who may benefit? Please feel free to share.
