Curiosity Led me to the ovenbird Thank you Kym Dakin
I’ve been eyeing this dome like house just outside our front door. It’s on the ground underneath one of our rhododendron plants. Moss, sicks, and grass make up this beautiful mound.
I wonder who made this? A rabbit? A bird? I’ve been asking for the last two weeks. My only action, watching and waiting. Maybe I will see someone soon.
I didn’t research until I read
post last Tuesday. Thank you for the nudge, Kym.Kym’s post ends with a beautiful question: “What are you curious about right now? And what’s one small simple action you might take to explore it?”
I immediately went to my computer to begin a search. I found out that ovenbirds make dome nests on the forest floor. They cover their eggs from predators such as garter snakes. How clever!
I still have not spotted the ovenbird but I hear the ovenbird. What a magnificent sound.
How about you?
What are you curious about right now? And what’s one small simple action you might take to explore it?

Oven bird you say?
Never heard of this creature
I will look it up
“A small, somewhat chunky warbler…” 🤭
The oven bird - gosh, I'd never heard of it - how fascinating! I love these surprises of nature.
What am I curious about? Today it's my garden: and specifically I'm curious about my interest in gardening, which is pretty new for me! I shall stand at the window and watch the rain splash onto the leaves of the plants that are growing and on the spaces where I plan to add more, and I'm looking forward to the opportunity for horticultural contemplation.
