If you read my book, Staring Down a Dream: A Mom, a Marathoner, a Mission— one of the characters is Aunt Phoebe. She is my inner judge. I thought she was my friend, a voice to listen to—yet she has been wrong over the years. Wrong about a lot of things.
I had to do much work to realize those thoughts were not serving me anymore. Those thoughts were lies and driven by fear, not love.
Beating myself up was not okay. I would never say those things to a friend but I was saying them to myself every day.
My hope is you’re aware of your inner judge or inner critic. We all have one.
Do you know the messages? Do you know the outdated thought loop?
Have you considered what’s not wrong?
Break the Trance What keeps you at a distance— from lacing up your sneakers? Is it the weather—rainy or cold? the inner judge who can be so bold? Maybe it’s the comfort of your bed, to leave it so soon—sometimes I dread. Maybe it’s self-doubt or pain that’s lingered A cycle you want to stop Yet to get out the door can feel like a lot. I’ve been there more times than I’d like to admit And to question my thoughts I had to commit To break the trance of my crazy inner judge— To ask “What’s not wrong?” Was the perfect nudge.
Thank you for reading and have a great weekend!
I’m off to run a marathon! :)
I look forward to sharing what I learn next week.
Good luck!!
Oh good for you! Enjoy 😉! I think we honor God when we enjoy his handiwork. When we enjoy his gifts. Like the joy we feel when our children are pleased with us! We are his handiwork, each one of us unique.
