No Hurry A beady eye looks up at me Pebbles kick up under my feet Just short of her shell, baby snapping turtle I veer to the left, Phew, close call… “It sure was!” croaked the quarter-sized toad Hopping across my path in no hurry Keeping my head down has benefits
One of my goals is to get better at writing poetry. I write one poem a day. I ship more than edit. I’m not sure yet if that’s good or not.
Will I get better if I don’t take the time to edit?
They say writing and reading poetry helps. I’ve been doing both, learning a lot yet have a long way to go. I’m in no hurry and I appreciate you being here reading some bad poetry most days. :)
I try not to compare myself to Mary Oliver, Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer, David Whyte, or even some of the poets in my writing group, Debbie, Margaret, Kym, and Louise.
When I posted this poem above (a much longer version) for thoughts, this is what I got back from Debbie. Her edits make this poem better!
Thank you, Debbie. She encouraged me by saying, “You are doing great! You’re writing!” I needed that.
Maybe you do too.
You are doing great! Keep going with the goal or project you are working on.
Thank you for being here with me,
Julie
I think you *will* get better by just doing it, with or without editing, because the muscle memory kicks in and becomes a foundation for creativity. Sometimes not editing is like keeping your head down, or shaking hands with the hill you're running up, and can be a release, and then, voila! You have a new thought or a different way of thinking, and your running/reading/writing cadence is the the thing that makes you fly. 😊
I love your poems!
They are a very special part of my morning.
Some things we write can be polished and improved .
Some days, you can be like "The Fonze". It's already perfect!
