Julie B. Hughes, I feel blessed to have come across this recording, this lesson, from the run. I liked the portion, “What stays.” A lot!

Thanks for your welcoming ways, Julie B. Hughes! Beth has been in a rough patch going on three weeks. Monday I’ll be in my own rough patch…colonoscopy @ 10:00 am, so I won’t be present again. I could consider a body double…at least for the colonoscopy! All the best to you and your family.

"I descended sideways to avoid falling" - I love that strategy and have used is successfully in a similar way when skiing (traverse a hill, like switchbacks), and cycling up difficult hills, traversing across to reduce the effort and stay safely on course.

My coach's advice that still is with me, 45+ years after I heard it, "Swim through the wall" from my swimming coach. The context: don't slow down when approaching the wall for that last touch. Slowing down even for a nano second could hand someone else a victory.

Can't wait to read the rest of your story, Julie!

Hi Mary B.! I was glad this strategy worked, I wasn't sure with the mud so slick.

Thank you for sharing your coach's advice and wisdom here with us! I love it "swim through the wall." So good.

Thanks again for being here and reading along. :)

Hi Julie, I was with you every step of the way. I am on day two of my conditioning chemo pre transplant (got the full remission news last week) and I lay back in my bed enjoying the sound of your soft voice in poetry. I thought of my amazing anonymous donor, of you running in the shady woods with such purpose and kindness and of my good friend Mary, who has invited my boys for dinner with her family and my heart is full.

Julie
