Life can be messy

“Responsible”

Has many facets

The trick, as I see it, is to keep all the facets polished and that begins with self-care. It is not Jeff or the kids, it is “Jules And” Jeff and the kids and .....

Aunt Phoebe is binary. You are multifaceted. Thanks for sharing your story. Yes, your actions create hope for all those who you touch through your actions, your words, your love❗️

Thank you Julie! I tear up every time I think of her. I have a sympathy card that I am sending to her daughter tomorrow. I got teary eyed just writing the note. Thanks for the hug! Needed it ! <3

You're so welcome. Sending more hugs your way. She sounds like she was an amazing friend, what was her name?

Her name was Linda Mack Bean. We were neighbors growing up (I was a little older). After high school we became better friends. She lived in NC with her daughter as she was not healthy.

Reading your perspective as the spouse of a cancer patient fascinates me.

Hi Julie! As I read just now, the juxtaposition of “sledding” with “library” delivered a jolt to my noggin. A well appreciated one of course. In the 13th century Rumi commented that we can hold two seemingly contradictory ideas or emotions in ourselves at once without being ill disposed. (Bats in the belfry...)

Or simply, you are juggling this dynamic with your best skill set possible. As a person, a wife, and a mother. And writer, runner, and ringleader!

Egads! Now I’m hearing part of the jingle for Looney Tunes productions, “On with the show this is it!” Fabuloso!

Hi Gary, Thank you so much for reading and your message. I did experience this so many times in this season...contradictory emotions. Looking back I'm glad I had tools and my faith to keep going.

Ahhh, Aunt Phoebe! She really needs to read the room, right, Julie?! Regardless of what she's telling you, you've absolutely got this. I'm really enjoying reading these excerpts from 'Ballbuster' - you have such a gift for exploring a really difficult subject with sensitivity and empathy and heart and love and eloquence. Thank you for sharing your family's story - I'm learning so much about life, health and humanity. Awesome job. 😊
