I remember and

smile at lessons taught by kid;

Dreams come with their thorns.

Thanks for today's post Julie. I watch my son do all kinds of uncomfortable things (like sleep in his truck) in pursuit of his tournament fishing dreams. In that regard, he has been an excellent teacher for me!

:)

You're so welcome Gail! Thank you for being here and sharing. I agree, my children are teaching me so much too. It's wonderful. Have a great Monday.

10k record heat

Ran a sub 40 minute

Almost passed out at finish

I had trained to run my first Marathon and got the flu two weeks prior but felt well enough to run the 10k. But even with all my marathon training, the 10k combined with 80+ degree temperatures almost knocked me out. I saw my whole life pass in my minds eye as I crossed the finish line. Fortunately the first responders prevented me from fainting and losing consciousness. Despite being way out of my comfort zone, I was so proud of my 39 minute time knowing I gave it all I had.

Wow Clark, under 40 minutes is cruising especially in those temperatures. Way to go. I'm happy to hear you were taken care of at the finish.

Yes, 6:20 miles was a form of "flying for me. Youth is also very "fleeting". Lol

I hear ya! I'm happy when I see my watch 7:05 mile pace! It defintely won't be that for the JFK 50 miler. LOL

I will patiently wait to hear all about your JFK experience. From what I recall from the "book" the course will require paying "attention, grit and determination " all qualities you have in abundance. ‼️👣‼️

Thank you so much Clark! I'm getting nervous and excited. The book has been so helpful and I can't thank you enough for recommending it. I just hope I don't see the train. I had no idea a train passes through the course!

'She accepts the challenge every time.' Go, Delaney! And go, Julie!

Thank you so much for the Write Along session yesterday afternoon - well, afternoon UK time, but still morning in NY! I'm (still!) so behind on everything, and it was fantastic to have that hour to breathe and write and reset along with you and Sharon. Wonderful. xxx

Hi Margaret, Thank you so much for saying this. I hope you’re having a great week.

When it comes to exercise these days, most of it is outside my comfort zone because of age-related issues like stiffness and arthritis--but if I don't do something, it's even worse. Running is out of the question, but I do try to walk everyday and get to the gym a few times a week. Once in a while I take a yoga class--at least half of the exercises are a challenge, but after I've done them--or at least attempted--I do feel better. So, as you say, pushing yourself--and your kids--can be a good thing. Thanks for an excellent question, Julie!

Walking and heading to the gym...way to go! Keep showing up Ruth! And I'm with you on the Yoga...every time I step on that mat I'm way out of my comfort zone. My Barefeet... EEK!

Sometimes I feel like everyday is a step outside of my comfort zone, and I feel like that is more life related at this point than running.

Hi Andrew, Isn't that the truth! Thank you for sharing. I believe my running practice has helped me face the challenges and discomforts of life. I hope all is well with you and yours.

Oh Julie, this made my morning. I got a chuckle out of this because I know Delaney is so capable of doing this and she does have to figure it out if this is what she wants to do. And it’s good to make kids struggle a little bit you can’t go rescue them every little time they have a problem and you’re a great mom about this.

Thank you Mom. I'm so happy to know. Yes, Delaney is so capable and strong. I do hope she sticks with it but I'll let her choose. I appreciate you saying this. I hope so. I definitely don't want to be hovering over her and telling her what to do every minute. That would drive me nuts and I appreciate that you didn't mother me like that.

I don't run! But I do walk, and in the winter when it is very cold, I generally start out thinking, "You are old. You don't have to do this. Why are you still out here?" But in a few minutes, my body warms from the inside because of the walking, and I say , "Oh, yes. This is why I do it!"

Good morning Claudette! I loved this so much. Thank you for being so honest and real Claudette. I have those thoughts too and then I remember why I'm out there. What a gift, isn't it?
