Nature is wonderful awesome and amazing. I am helping a new friend get settled into her new “nest”. It’s an overwhelming task to move into a new place. An extra pair of hands is very welcome. Animals work so hard and diligently until their task is complete, they don’t give up like we humans do sometimes. Was there ever a half built nest? They are a good model to emulate.
Bird nest blueprints are fascinating! Perhaps not literally the genetic code that leads to similar results within a species. From the rugged nature of a Bald Eagle’s rookery to a hummingbird’s nest I found produced from the hair of a black lab I once had.
My sense of today’s message is the invitation to examine our own blueprints (social) to better understand what type of nest we can offer others in need of one. If we alone (think community) can’t build the needed nest, then group efforts can offer a path. To not look for our own path for action bears no fruit. Builds no nests.
A saying came to mind: “From each according to means; to each according to need.” Sources of this idea come from the New Testament as well as Karl Marx, and other 19th and 20th century sources.
Thanks, Julie, for your inspiring post and the accompanying question concerning what twig or branch we each can contribute. Our local food banks need folks with reliable transportation to distribute food to soup kitchens and similar providers to the cold and hungry. Not even my “twigs” but a need nonetheless. 🙏🏽
I love your response...right on! Our local food banks our in need as well and some local churches are looking for warm clothes and jackets for children in the area. I'm happy I can help as I look through the children's winter clothes that no longer fit them. I can offer this.
Thank you Gary for sharing and being here. You've inspired me to dropped those clothes off today!
Perhaps, in this era, we can best reciprocate by healing the earth we ravage & plunder & pollute. First, do no harm. Hippocrates was speaking to all of us. Thanks Jules for reminding us to think & do and be in communication & community.
Just as we may not be here to see our newly planted tree take root & grow, we must still plant the seed for the next generation. Lovely poem Jules. Nature once again points the way. Have we forgotten how to mimic our best teacher? I pray not….
This resonates deeply as I see the beautiful Maple trees we have that someone else planted for us to enjoy. I'm so grateful they did. How can I reciprocate for the next generation? A beautiful question to ponder. Thank you Clark. I pray we look to nature each hour and have a teachable spirit.
I’ve heard a saying “A person who plants a tree they’ll never see reach maturity believes in the future.” Along the lines of Einstein’s advice to decide if the Universe is friendly or unfriendly.
I’ll be baking up some treats for a community Christmas supper for those in recovery who aren’t able to be with family during the holidays. Food is love, and comfort and joy, right?
Yesterday I filled the bird feeders and am enjoying the flits and flutters from my kitchen table.
I had taken a number of years “off” from feeding for various reasons. Mostly because my energy was devoted -- to sorting myself? 🤔
To everything there is a season...
What a fun sight to see from the kitchen table. :) Pure joy!
Thank you Gail.
Indeed!

Good morning Mom,
What a wonderful friend you are. Moving is overwhelming and I'm so happy you are healthy and willing to help her.
I love your question... "Was there ever a half built nest?" This is so true. Let us be diligent and complete the task at hand with a cheerful heart.
We love you, xoxo

Thank you for leading, Clark.
My “list” is endless
We need not finish the task
But we must start now….

I like this. Thank you for sharing here.

Think about building your home with your mouth!
It amazes me!! I love birds.

Absolutely!! I love this for comfort and joy.
They are going to be thrilled to have your treats! Thank you for sharing and being here Amie.
Lovely poem -
Share more this week? For me it's to use my voice on Instagram, as I am fairly isolated.

Thank you so much Diane. It's great to hear from you.
I've been thinking of you and sending comfort and joy your way!
