Pumpkin cookies a Peace offering warm and sweet Nourishes the soul
I made pumpkin cookies. I find when I'm in my head way too much baking helps. It's a delicious tool and one I can share with others.
I believe the giving part benefits everyone.
The trick I learned to make the cookies fluffy is to add the baking soda to the pumpkin, mix it, and then let it sit for at least two minutes. I guess some chemical reaction happens.
Isn't that cool? I wonder who figured that out.
Anyway, my children gave me two thumbs up as they inhaled them. I made a plate to drop off to my Dad and his wife. It's been ten years since I've dropped anything off to my Dad. It took me that long to heal.
My friend Gail reminded me of Edith Wharton's words, “Some things are best mended by a break.”
This was true for me.
My Dad hasn't changed one bit but I have. I have changed. I'm proud of myself for stepping away and doing the work because now, I won't pass on the generational trauma to my children. What a gift.
Thank you Dad for accepting the cookies with open arms.
Here’s the recipe below to share with others. My children like chocolate chips so instead of the glaze I press a few into the cookies as they come out of the oven.
May we continue to spread peace and guard our hearts wherever we go. Cookies optional but recommended.
Take good care,
Julie
What a fine start to my day! First a very yummy sounding cookie recipe, complete with secrets from The Great Pumpkin for fluffy glazed cookies. Better still was your sharing of a life lesson involving self care, boundaries (family boundaries can be the toughest), and the gift of giving that’s a two way street.
Thanks for all you wrote, Julie!
Cookies open doors
But inner work shows the way
Impossible done!
Oh Jules. What a heart touching Haiku and sharing. You inspire beyond words and provide hope to many.
