Good morning, Clark! Thank you for this great haiku. The night/ early morning sky has been wonderful these last several weeks. I recall as a kid sleeping under the stars at summer camp...great memories.
A quick note: the picture is of the constellation Orion. The three nicely aligned stars are Orion’s Belt. Each of the Belt stars bears a unique name. Betelgeuse is subtended by Orion’s outline. The whole is no less spectacular or mysterious for having a few details noted.
They is awesome. I didn't catch that in my readings. Here is what I found...When I was researching "Orion's belt" I also read they called it the three sisters and the names that came up— Alnitak, Alnilam and Mintaka— and apparently these 3 stars are massive! Bigger than the sun. WOW!
“Who else is standing under the night sky looking up.” A great metaphor for life: being aware; being grateful for all of creation; sharing our lived experiences. Years ago I observed a spectacular sunset as I was about to enter a store. Looking around I saw only one other person looking at the sunset. Sensing a kindred spirit I approached her carefully. I offered, “What an amazing sight!” A brief conversation followed and she indicated she was from Russia and studying locally at uni. I marveled that despite many differences, we connected on the basis of our awareness of our surroundings. Popcorn would have been welcome.
Thank you Gary for reading and sharing here. I love this story...how brave of you to approach her and start up a conversation. How cool! I'm pushing courage to do this more with folks. If I can find those who are slowing down and noticing like me. Thank you.
We old hippies used to say “Picking up vibes” to explain this kind of occurrence. Today I guess lots of variables can factor in. Posture, facial expression, where their gaze is oriented. I don’t approach people carelessly today either. Energy fields? Auras? A sense of common ground?
If there was a clue, like a bag of popcorn, signifying “I’m safe” this would be less intimidating. Enjoy this new day!
Look up and tremble
Awe and wonder fill the sky
Hmmm...who hangs the moon?
Thanks Julia for the reminder to look up where the night sky is filled with deep mystery...
