No matter the gloom

"Manufacturing Sunshine"

Is the antidote....

Congrats on your muddy tune up race for the Fifty miler this weekend. Do you have the nutrition plan down now? What and where is the race? Why is "MANUFACTURING SUNSHINE" trademarked ?

How far was the first loop that Delaney ran with you?

Julie B. Hughes's avatar

Good morning, Clark! I wondered if I needed to write more. :) LOL

The Nutrition plan is down. I'm confident about getting the carbs I need every hour. The 50 mile race is in Ithaca, NY....The Caygua Trails (It's going to be beautiful).

My friend Terri, who writes here on Substack as well, coined that phrase in her book The Focused Fight. You can learn more about her and the inspiration/kindness her family is creating in the world. https://www.territomoff.com/

The loop was 10 miles, with my son Brindsley running 1 loop with me. He had a blast.

Thank you Clark for the great questions and the haiku. :)

I'm thankful to know you and Sharon.

Oops, "Brindsley"....apologies.

Have vacationed in Cayuga... beautiful‼️ Enjoy every mile. Soon we'll be calling you "Courtney" as you run with such joy.

Thanks for all the info...

Thank you Clark! This made my day...Courtney is amazing and humble. I would love to meet her.

Clark, I'll be running for Howard again. I'll need his strength on this course for sure. 10,000 feet of elevation gain.

Clark Rose's avatar

Howard will be sending you heavenly music to inspire & fuel those last 10 miles. He had a gift for music & created some magnificent compositions....

May your run be filled with the pure joy of being alive. Please keep your eyes on the trail and tread carefully....

I'm so happy to know this about Howard. I will be listening. Thank you so much Clark. I can't wait to see all the waterfalls.

What a great account of your muddy run with your son and others. I loved it, especially the smell of the pine in the damp woods. There's nothing like it, and running in that with your son, well, that IS glorious!

Julie B. Hughes's avatar

It truly was glorious, Mary B! I forgot how fun it was to zip and zoom along the trails. :) The mud was splashing everywhere. LOL Thank you for reading and being here. Have a fabulous weekend.

You, too, Julie! I’m readying an envelope to send your way. :-)

Truly, what a great day to be a runner. I am inspired by your energy, enthusiasm and readiness to stretch the limits of mind, body and soul and your passion is simply matchless. I too am moving in this direction with slow but steady steps and you are one of the strong guiding forces. Keep up the great work.

A bib as a celebration! 💕 this. What about bibs—race or otherwise—as a writing prompt?

Julie B. Hughes's avatar

Thank you so much, Amie. I love this idea about the writing prompt. Brilliant!

Tell me about a bib that carries significance? Now I'm thinking of my children's baby bibs, which I haven't thought about in years.

Mud? This kinda sounds fun

Julie B. Hughes's avatar

Yes and LOTS of it. It was super fun. Thanks for reading, Richard. I'm really enjoying your poems in Melancholy MBA.

Oh Julie thank you I am honored.

Julie B. Hughes's avatar

It's my pleasure, and I enjoy reading poetry...it will help me get better. :)

The Good Poems books edited by Garrison Keillor are can't miss anthologies, if you're searching for good poets.

Thank you. I appreciate your recommendation, and I am.

I ran the 20 miler one year and it was muddy! Good luck this weekend!

Julie B. Hughes's avatar

Oh, awesome, Jenn! I wonder if it is ever not muddy. LOL

Thank you so much. I can't wait to experience the views and waterfalls. I heard this is the most beautiful 50 mile course on the East Coast. I'm grateful I get to run.

Wow, I loved this! Hurrah for manufacturing your own sunshine! Yay to both you and Brindsley!

Some of my favourite runs were also the muddiest! I did a Christmas one in a Santa suit, and it was the muddiest trail I'd ever been on - oh boy, it was absolutely wonderful! I didn't fall over, thank goodness, but it was a close thing once or twice. I climbed into a big black bin bag before I got into the car, and then Jim had to put the garden hose on me once we'd got home! 🤣 Ha! Oh Julie, it was such fun!
