One lucky runner...

and the great blue heron

I get to see great blue herons on my runs. I’m spotting them in places I didn’t last year. I’m truly one lucky runner.

A great blue heron 
Alert to my footfalls
Lifts off from the bank 

Wings expand with the dawn
Steady and bold  
I nod in appreciation

An honor to be in the presence 
of this mighty bird as he  
rises with the sun.
