I got to run on Sunday at the ERace Cancer Half Marathon to benefit Cancer Connects. My son Brindsley raced the 5K. He wanted to break his record from last year. (He was 4 seconds shy but came in first for his age group!)
I was not feeling 100%. My goal was to talk kind to myself each mile, have fun, and cross the finish line. It was cold and windy yet the rain held off until we finished!
Jeff and Delaney came to cheer us on…what troopers! It was great to see friends and meet new ones. What a great morning!
Sunday’s race reminded me the tune we sing to ourselves matters.
What tune will you sing today?
Niggles I feel yet I keep moving along One foot in front of the other has become my song Even though the wind is fierce Even though the road is bare I will shift my focus to the leaves flying Breathe in the crisp air Fix my eyes ahead don't look down feet are listening to the brain background Courage over comfort You got this— one mile at a time Uplifting tune on repeat Carry the mind and body to the beat You are made for this Your body is strong I get to the finish and smile— Grateful I chose to toe the start line and celebrate each mile
I can’t take all the credit here for this recipe. I changed a few ingredients but comes from the cookbook Rise and Run by Elyse Kopecky & Shalane Flanagan.
Race Day Superhero Muffins:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees bake for 25-30 minutes
Mix together:
2 cups of oat flour (I ground gluten-free rolled oats to make my own)
1/2 cup rolled oats (gluten-free)
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
In medium size bowl combine:
1 cup peeled, grated sweet potato
4-5 mashed ripe bananas
1/3 cup maple syrup
1/3 cup almond butter
Combine wet ingredients to dry and mix well. Then place in muffin tins. Makes 12 muffins. Perfect pre-race morning fuel.
Love this!! I often hum tunes when I am working in the flower garden. I especially like the hymn "In The Garden". Not going to try your muffin recipe as I don't like bananas. My pumpkin muffin recipe is my favorite. Only 2 items, Spice cake mix and 1 can 15 oz. pumpkin., maybe a few raisins if desired. 350 for 25 minutes, or less if toothpick comes out clean. YUM!!
Courage over comfort...
I am thinking of a song:
