Love this!! I often hum tunes when I am working in the flower garden. I especially like the hymn "In The Garden". Not going to try your muffin recipe as I don't like bananas. My pumpkin muffin recipe is my favorite. Only 2 items, Spice cake mix and 1 can 15 oz. pumpkin., maybe a few raisins if desired. 350 for 25 minutes, or less if toothpick comes out clean. YUM!!
I used to run around the ice oval at the Pettit Center. Al, whose job it was to ring the bell for speedskaters, gave out high fives to runners passing by. It was so uplifting!!!
Words radiating joy? I’m certain that’s what appeared on my screen. Congratulations to Brindsley (and you as well for showing up when other factors argued not to)
The recipe for super hero oat muffins sounds amazing! When cold nights visit us in Florida, steel cut oats in our crockpot, that simmer overnight, are a treat to wake up to. Adding barely cooked wedges of organic apples + cinnamon sometimes happens.
I’ll offer a tune to sing for another day’s run. Neil Young’s “Long May You Run.”
Hi Gary, Thank you so much. We had a great time and I'm grateful for the opportunity to toe another start line. This sounds so good and I bet your home smells amazing with the crockpot simmer oats with apples & cinnamon. Delicious.
Can't go wrong with Neil Young...I'm playing that tune today. Thank you.
The starting song can be a variety of songs for big races it’s “lose yourself”, but for my finishing tune and there isn’t a story surrounding the song, it is just wonderful and my favorite. The immortal Louis Armstrong’ s “A Wonderful world”. I don’t have special treats waiting for me after but a great closing song.
Thank you Julie, I always enjoy reading your poems and finding meaning in them. Unfortunately, for myself, I will be having another back surgery this week ( fusion surgery) and I will most likely not feel the wonderful trails and the understanding of the beautiful words until about April. Keep composing your great writing and I will be reading them while recovering and have so many things to discover as I walk in recovery. 🏃♀️🏃🏻♂️🏥🩻😄
I'll be thinking of you this week as you undergo surgery. You have a great attitude and I will do my best to keep you going these next few months. Walking will be excellent as you make your way back. Keep pushing courage and please reach out if I can be a resource to you.
Thank you Julie, I truly appreciate the advice of an author, marathoner and PT, and will definitely ask some PT questions during recovery. You have actually been helping me since I discovered your beautiful poems. I was thinking the other day and writing in my notes everything I was grateful for and will be after recovery. Since I discovered you on Substack and then looked at your books. Part of my morning routine before a run was reading your latest of poems. I had even gone as far as creating an account and started writing again with the premise of being a slow runner. In the cruelest of irony, the day after, I registered for my web site, OYR a running (On Your Right) and created my about page, the next day I woke up and couldn’t get out of bed. That was almost five months ago. Reading authors such as yourself and the other talented people on these writing sites such as Sub Stack, medium, quora etc, I have stayed inspired for recovery. I long for the day that your words resonate as I am actually really running. The site evolved over a few years of running slow and being passed on my left. I came up with the idea of a community of on your right runners. Those of us that smile when we are passed (often) and just truly have a love of running. I had planned on tying it in with my charity partner for the NY marathon this year and create a community for those of us that are slow. Funny how one unexpected day changes everything in your life.
Thank you for sharing here Howard. I love your idea of OYR running. I'm happy to hear you are writing and finding other ways to keep you going during this season of challenge. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers and feel free to reach out. Don't go through this alone.
Thank you mom! Yes we had fun despite the weather. The muffins are delicious and with tea or coffee it's perfect. :) The 12 muffins are already gone. LOL The kids love them I just stuff a few chocolate chips on the top.
Good morning Clark, I can't wait to show Brindsley the haiku you wrote. Thank you so much. He loves to run and it makes my heart so happy to see the joy on his face after each race. I will google "Kawaga Ideal" Thank you.
Hi Linda, yes let me know what you think. They are so good and one is included in my pre-race meal. It's taken some experimenting. I don't eat eggs so I added the extra bananas as a way to sub for the eggs. :) Thank you for being here. Keep lacing up.

Oh thank you Faith for this pumpkin recipe! I love pumpkin and muffins. :) Enjoy this sunshine today. I'm thrilled...2 days in a row. Hallelujah!
Courage over comfort...
I am thinking of a song:

I LOVE this song! Thank you so much for sharing here Gail. I appreciate you.
As my dad says, “The road runs both ways.”
😁
Giving you a high five as I run past! :) Thank you Gail.

That's awesome! Al sounds like someone I would love to meet.

Wow, well done Brindsley and Julie! I'm sorry you weren't feeling 100%, Julie - but you're amazing for getting to the finish with a smile! 🙌
Thank you Rebecca! :)

So glad you and Brin had such good races, congratulations! Thanks for the muffin recipe, sounds like a great snack for the cold weather coming soon.
My tune this morning is gratitude.

Brindsley you did it ❗️
Despite poor weather and wind
First place is all yours
Jules, google the “Kawaga Ideal”. You and Jeff will resonate with this deep wisdom. Congratulations on both B & D.

Good to know I’m not the only one talking kindly to myself while running (and baking!)
Yes! I like to think we are kindred spirits! :) Hope you are enjoying your last weeks in Maine. xox
