I was sick last week and missed four days of running, but who’s counting? It’s interesting how my brain spirals to the worst-case scenario— no peace, no joy.
It’s normal to have this brain chatter but I don’t want to be in this negative spiral for too long. What I’ve learned to help is label it “oh there goes the judge (Aunt Phoebe) again, then take action.
What that looks like for me is helpful mantras or sentences that are kind (ya know, something you would say to a friend), read inspiring/encouraging words, or turn my attention to what I see, hear, or touch for a few minutes.
I’m curious when your chatter is on volume 10 how do you turn it down?
And remember today is a new day to get back on track. Thank you for reading and letting me take up some space in your inbox.
Take good care,
Julie
Sick in bed. When is this ever a good time? This too shall pass— Reminder to stay on the bright side. Yet, my mind full of chatter, “You have missed FOUR days of running.” “You will lose all you’ve gained!” The sentences are so unkind— “You won’t be ready for the race.” Oops, there you go again. I know that voice and it’s not much of a friend. I will listen to my body instead. Rest will help this is temporary— You’ve been here before and made it through. I laugh…so true. Day five, my body feels more energized. Breathing is better, cough has improved. Feet nudge, lace those sneakers. Heart shouts— Oh! Goodie. Let's move!

Somehow it’s stepping back an observing your thoughts and what you’re brain is saying.
I'm sorry that you were ill.
But I'm glad that you are feeling better now. :).
