The moon has been a delight to admire this week. The joy of the dark, early nights.
Delaney and I were heading to get my son Brindsley when she shouted, “Look, mom, look at the moon!”
It disappeared behind the hillside. Disappointed she asked, “Where did it go?”
“Oh! It’s playing peek-a-boo with us.” I smiled as the moon appeared once again as we came over the hill.
“There it is again mom!”, she grinned as I watched from the rearview mirror.
“Hey Delaney, let’s write a poem about it.”
“Great idea mom.”
We each thought of some words, and lines to use, and here is what we came up with:
We Applaud The moon is playing peekaboo with the hillside. We drive in delight. Praise for her boldness, front and center as we crest the hill. We applaud.

I love this, Julie! This brought back memories of a night when Noah was about 4 or 5 and we “chased the moon” on our drive home one evening. And there was a bright star that prompted some imagination from him. At the time I was in a poetry class for my creative writing studies. I wrote this poem based on his thoughts.
Star
God is on that first far
away speck in the sky
that may be a planet—
that may be the earth.
He has an old shirt
and is probably
in a rocketship.
The child thinks,
and so
it is.
Yes I should be able to.
