           Light Soars  

The water rushes 
ahead of me 
A light, cool
breeze behind me
A figure 
catches my eye—
not a moment too soon 
My sneakers come 
to a standstill 
Thrust
Flap 
I lift my chin to
the sky
grateful 
the book 
grows wings 
now soars 
over the globe
carrying hope
and light
