What do you think?
Last piece of Chapter 31
The last piece of Chapter 31— A REAL BALLBUSTER: Untangling Testicular Cancer Together. (Publication date set for April 3rd!)
Sunday’s run was at the Erie Canal Trail. I loved this spot to run, not only did it give me a break from the hills but there was always somebody to see. Blue herons, cardinals, deer, and sometimes we would spot a beaver, snapping turtle, or wild turkey.
Felicia and I were on our way back when we spotted a woman on the trail looking at something. She was standing close to the edge of the bank looking down at the water. As I got closer I was curious about what she was so interested in. We stopped once we caught up to her. I asked, “What are you looking at?”
“I think it’s a beaver, what do you think?”
Felicia and I stepped closer and looked down at the water. An enormous brown ball waddled towards the edge. I recognized the tail.
“Yup, that’s a beaver! How cool.”
The beaver entered the water and all three of us stood there in silence as we watched the beaver swim across to the other side. I had no idea how fascinating it was to watch a beaver swim. The tail moving up and down in the water was mesmerizing. Slow and steady the beaver climbed out of the water and made his way up the bank. He was so big and cute from a distance. I grinned.
The woman turned to us, “The early bird catches the worm, glad I’m on the trail early to see him this morning.”
We nodded and smiled. I chimed in, “That’s why we love running so early, there’s so much we get to see.”
We waved goodbye and began our run again.
I was content. I loved being among creation. It made me feel like everything was right in the world.
Everything will be okay.
It’s Your Move:
Thank you for reading along and for your wonderful, generous comments,
I’m truly grateful,
Julie
Such wonderful show and tell. First, your writing! Inspiring. I could “see” the beaver performing its tail kick stroke. I wondered if beavers perform that stroke with their tails “pitched?” Like a canoe paddle? Maybe a YouTube rabbit hole will provide an answer?
Then, The Bird Dog Move, so smoothly executed. My brain wanted to shout, “Flossing!” I considered the “cross floss” effect from alternating the arms to accompany the same leg? (When I don’t really know what’s going on, I devise a plausible depiction :-)
Question: Is today Gratitude Day but I didn’t get the memo? Why do I ask? Early this morning I read a post from a woman writer/creator who lives on Orkney Island. Way, way north in Northern Ireland. Despite winter weather that chills me just to read her descriptions, and winter storm after winter storm that she animates with her precise wording as wild, angry forces demanding recognition and respect, she today shared a video she shot to depict water in all aspects of our existence. With a tone of gratitude. Of course Elaine and Gail’s offering today put the spotlight on fascination coupled with gratitude.
Without any hesitation I’ll say you served magnificently as the starter’s alert and the pace setter for those who
rose from bed early enough to accompany you on your run. Well done. Very well done.
This was so amazing! Yes, early morning runs/walks can show us a lot of nature! Love you!
