I got some money as an appreciation for my act as a child and the first thing I did was to bribe my brother to let go all the frogs he had kept in a captivity. It gave me a strong sense of contentment.
My Dad found a used Triumph, fire engine red convertible which was my first major purchase. I drove it from Cleveland to Washington University in St. Louis over a dozen times (12 hour drive before interstate 70 was completed), no G.P.S.
Such a brilliant story! Gosh, I'm going to have a think - it's a fabulous writing prompt, and I need to dig up some memories to do it justice! Thank you for the inspiration - this is certainly something I'd love to write about! You're so generous with everything you share, Julie - thank you. xxx
On a recent Monday ZOOM gathering, this topic brought to mind so many memories and emotions from my youth. The writing offered a subtle, new way to view my youth. Hearing your story today, Julie B., was a glimpse at those formative years of your life. Brava!
Good morning, Gary! It's so great to get your message. I love that it brought up so many memories for you as well. We have so many stories to tell, don't we? Thank you for being here, and I'm sending prayers to you and Beth.
I totally did not appreciate it at the time but when I was 12, we were in Europe, driving a rented Volkswagen van across several countries and eating bologna in parks. One night we stayed at a bed-and-breakfast that had an entire room full of parakeets. It became my heart’s desire to own a parakeet for myself And when we finally got back to the US and set up housekeeping in Nebraska, the first thing I bought was some saved up money was a bright green parakeet. Feels like yesterday.
This is a fantastic story, Mombadear. A bright green parakeet! How amazing. I'm so curious...did you name your parakeet? And did you train it to talk? ( I know nothing about parakeets.)
My parakeets name was Lucky and apparently it was appropriate. My sister got a parakeet at the same time named appropriately Perry. For some reason, Perry didn’t last long. Then she got one named Keeta Keeta also didn’t last long and finally, a third parakeet . mine outlivedthem all. None of them talked, but they were adept at escaping from their cage, and we often came home from school to find them flying around our bedroom .

HI Vineet,
This is so beautiful. You gave your brother the money, and he let all the frogs go? I love this. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks to you, Julie, for bringing up such topics. 😊😊
I love that I get to do this. :) I'm not sure where I saw this prompt, but it is a great one, isn't it?
Indeed it is, Julie. 😊😊
I saved my money
Then purchased a TR-4
Bright red, used, perfect‼️

and no passenger. Exhilarating...‼️
No but it was a teenage thrill...
I can imagine!! Incredible.
Thank you for sharing, Clark. What a ride! Do you still have it?

Sounds like the perfect name. What excitement, to have a bright green bird flying around your room! I can picture it now. :)
Oooo I remember that smell, and the joy! Thank you for the memory you inspired.
Good morning, Claudette!
