After two children, I had doubts about my abilities. My body had changed. Running three miles was a struggle. How will I be able to toe the start line of a marathon again?
Yet you know what else changed—my mind.
My children were watching me. Listening to me. What would I say to them?
I would say— you are robust, adaptable, and strong.
I would say— you can do hard things.
I would say— you were made for this—get back to what you LOVE.
It’s going to take practice, patience, and courage—will it be easy?— NO.
Yet what you need is already inside of you. GO. GO. GO.
You can do it, mama. OH YES, you can!
What are you saying to yourself? Is it what you would say to your friend or your child?
Just 15 miles I got this Use to be five I shrugged off Now ten more And I’m out the door. Run practice it is Miles add up Body and mind Adapt— So please Never give up!
They are on my calendar!!
What I say to myself, and what I say or would say to someone else is exactly the opposite. Why is it, that I am so critical and judgemental about myself: my eating, my training, my daily routines, etc., but a whole big bag of encouragement when I talk to someone else? Self talk is such an important part of self care and general well being.
