I also used to pack eggs on a chicken farm when I lived in Georgia. 30,000 birds. I stood at a table and flatted eggs as they came in on an egg belt. My fastest was 120 eggs a minute (yes, points down, biggest eggs in a separate flat on the shelf, cracked but not leaking eggs up on the shelf in a different flat, very dirty eggs in the bucket to be washed).

If they came in faster than that, they would pile up and threaten to fall off the table, so I had to pull the handle to stop the belt. Stopping the belt was not the best, because all the chickens were still laying, meaning more eggs on the belt!

I loved the chicken farm, and raising my boys there. Fond memories!!

I'm a big egg fan. My hens produce them daily. I make my hubby gather them because the rooster has it in for me but I'm thankful for the ability to walk out my door and have fresh ones.

Freedom to be safe

To grow up like most humans

Free from harvesting….

Unlike many small family farms, “big” agriculture and factory farming never hear the sweet cry/song of a newly hatched baby chicken. There must be a better way to feed the world. John Robbins book, Diet for a New America changed my eating habits forever. Btw, no sermon intended here, just sharing my feelings. ♥️

What an egg-citing topic today! Long ago and far away, as a child, our family kept Rhode Island Reds for eggs and later to eat. Today, we try to find eggs from free range hens fed an organic diet. Fresh blades of grass and bugs. Those in the Cicada zone will be living “high on the bug.”

I love scrambled eggs, deviled eggs, sliced hard-boiled in fresh greens salads, and French Toast! On to the best of days! (Today!)

Yes, as a child I helped my Dad to gather the eggs from the nests. It was fun if the hens didn't attack! (ouch). I love eggs sunny side up and of course, deviled eggs!

I am not taking 14 three year olds out! Someone might take off the glasses. Maybe I can see the next one.

My Sister and her husband run a little homestead and my nephew raised chickens his whole life. He would enter them in the fair each year and I would go help the little guy feed them all in the chicken barn. As he grew into a big guy he won a few nice prizes for his chickens. He is in University now and so I just collect the eggs now when I visit my dear sister and her family. But I have great memories of my nephew the chicken man.

Oh, this is brilliant, Julie!

Eggs are my favourite food, and I eat absolutely tonnes of them. I enjoy omelettes and very buttery scrambled eggs, but my favourite eggs are my two soft-boiled eggs every morning for breakfast. There's no better start to the day, and I always look forward to it. Oh, and if I'm hungry during the day I'll often have a hard-boiled egg as a snack.

I eat a lot of eggs and I just went and checked my organic eggs and sure enough they were all pointed down. Whew!

Just from the title, before I'd even opened this story, I thought, "Eggs?"

And then!
