I thank the rain 
for taking a day off. 

dirt solid,  
feet happy,  
trees life-giving,  
breathe easy.  

I get to run  
within the woods,  
along trails,  
in the early hours.

cardinal cheers,  
soul calm,  
sky clear, 
mind follows.

how wonderful 
it is to be
outdoors. 
to move my legs,
to stand with
the hardwoods
to hear the drum
of the woodpecker.  

Will I remember
