I read Writing Down the Bones last year and enjoyed it. I always have a to read stack and it never seems to be getting smaller. Waiting to get my copy of Spare as soon as it comes out.

Well, I'm a middle-aged suburban dad and I'm reading Colleen Hoover's "Verity," which my stepdaughter told me is "pretty spicy." But my mother-in-law gave it to me for my birthday, thinking it was a spy/thriller novel or something. I'll let you know how it goes ;)

Great stack of books, Julie!

I've got a recommendation for you - 'Coasting' by Elise Downing. She's actually recently joined Substack - https://elisedowning.substack.com. I was given her book for Christmas in 2021, and absolutely adored it - it's her story of running the coastline of the United Kingdom, and it's a thought-provoking, inspirational and motivational delight. And HILARIOUS! I was so pleased to find her here on SS recently.

I've just finished 'A Sea Between Us' by Yosely Pereira, about his journey from Cuba to the US - it's extraordinary and wonderful - and I've nearly finished 'Dear Committee Members', a very funny epistolary novel by Julie Schumacher made up of a series of letters of recommendation by the stagnated-in-academia protagonist. It has me laughing out loud, and it's a really clever book!

Next on my list are 'Ghosts' by Dolly Alderton and 'On Writing' by Stephen King. Why isn't there more TIME in my life for reading? Or writing, for that matter!?

Speaking of which, I'll see you in a little while for writing group!

See you in a tick! Amusingly I was just trying to schedule my Saturday morning post before quickly putting the kettle on... and in my haste I hit 'Publish' by mistake! That'll teach me to be in such a hurry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've done that before as well...and I was in a hurry too. I've learned my lesson. HA! (well at least I hope so). Wonderful to see you today and thank you again for the book recommendations. :)

Thanks for another great writing session, Julie - I really loved having the opportunity!

🤣 I think the only post I'd ever published 'live' had been my first one - I always, always, ALWAYS schedule! I feel so silly! Still, at least I was only around 18 hours out - it could have been worse!

I used to read a lot of different books, but now I only read mysteries. I also read them over again in a couple of years. My favorite author is James Patterson.

I heard James Patterson is an amazing author. I'll have to read one of his books this year. I love Dolly Parton and I think he helped her with her recent book? (I'll need to double check that)

Yes. It is called "Run Rose Run". At least I think it is as that is the one I want to read soon.

I dog-ear books and magazines too, to reread before I put or give them away!

At present I am reading "An Amish Christmas" in the bedroom, and "The Chosen Presents A Blended Harmony of the Gospels" in the bathroom. I just finished "The One Year Bible." But it took me 3 years.
