Next Thursday, I will leave for Western Maryland to run the JFK 50 miler. I’m so grateful for my health and the ability to toe the line in nine days. When the idea of running 50 miles entered my mind I pushed it away.
My thoughts—You don’t have time to train. How can you commit to this distance with the other responsibilities you have? It’s too far, stick to marathons. You’re a mother.
HA! I’m laughing. I did believe them for a while. I put off the 50-mile idea because I didn’t believe I had the time to train. I believed in the “mom guilt”— this isn’t the right time, your children are too young.
I was wrong.
I’m happy my coach was in my corner and created a training plan that I could do even as a mother, wife, and part-time business owner. I’m thankful for my family who supported this crazy goal of mine.
I’m glad I challenged my thoughts—those would keep me doing the same, not growing or learning.
Maybe you have a goal in mind that seems out of reach. I encourage you to listen carefully, choose wisely, and don’t be afraid to admit when you’re wrong.
I’m grateful I have folks surrounding me, reminding me— what’s possible.
Our thoughts are powerful. We must be aware of when they might be holding us back. When they could be keeping us from doing what we were made to do. We’re created to do challenging and extraordinary things.
Go for it! Show us what’s possible.
I’m cheering you on,
Julie
I'm dedicating each mile of my 50-mile run to honor cancer warriors and those who can no longer run. With 41 heroes already inspiring my journey, I have 9 special miles left to dedicate. Would you share the name of someone you'd like me to run for? Next Monday, I'll send the complete list of all 50 remarkable individuals who will power each step. Thank you for helping make this run more meaningful.
