What a 5K race is all about

Poem out loud
15

Welcome and good morning to Run to Write Poetry. My daughter toed the start line on Saturday for a 5K run—the inspiration for today’s poem out loud.

Meals on Wheels 5K race in memory of Michael French— We finished!

Whoa…look at her go!
Her legs and arms pump
Her eyes straight ahead
A flash of light blue darts
around the bend.

I’m going to catch the lady
in front of me is what she said
She passed her on the right
Made a mad dash to the front
Cheers and shouts explode

Go, Delaney! Go!

She picks up the pace
Doesn’t back down
Her heart
and grin
carry her now

She never gave up
Faced her fear
Out shined the darkness
of doubt
What a 5K race
is all about
