You can run

Poem Out Loud
12

Good morning!

I was told to stop running when I was in my early twenties. My dream of running The Boston Marathon was crushed by the words “You can’t run.”

I’ll never forget it…Listen in to hear more.

                  You Can Run

You can't run—
three words to
crush my spirit.
A message to move
along my nervous system
Clings to my hips
grips my spine—
burrows deep in
my mind.

You can't run
a pity party of defeat
Three syllables
on repeat
that I
believed—
           WAKEUP!
I am not delicate
I am not fixed
I am not dead—yet
           WAKEUP!
I am robust
I am bioplastic
I am alive
            AND!
I can comeback
I can gradually comeback.
I can run.
I will run.

Have a terrific Thursday!

Take good care,

Julie
