Run for Resilience

Poem out loud
12

I was met with this question last week—

Are we structures that break down with load or are we ecosystems that adapt?

And it led to a poem…

          Run for Resilience

The canal still—
We run side by side
on level ground
each step carried
by the mighty trees,
the resilient blue heron
the snapping turtle
slow but steady—
Interconnected
we bound along the trail
In a moment of appreciation
I finally understand—

I am an ecosystem
I am made to adapt
to load
to change
to life.
My structure isn’t easy
to break down.
